Oh hey there!
Curious about what we're doing?
Cries in the Wilderness is a Catholic nature group for young moms and their little ones of all ages. We meet at various parks north of Houston for fun activities, hiking, exploring, praying, and playing.
We also meet for other "big adventures" around the greater Houston area like berry picking, farm tours, beach days, camping trips, programs at nature centers and arboretums, outdoor theaters, zoos, and any other outdoor activity that sounds like fun. Husbands, grandparents, and other friends are always welcome to join us, too.
Our activities always include prayer time, and we also nurture our faith by including celebrations of special feast days, faith-based crafts, games, and stories throughout our calendar. Occasionally, we also have a "Mamas' Mini-Retreat" or a "Night In" for the mamas to get a break and recharge by meeting up without the kids.
While the calendar of activities is especially helpful to give mamas a little structure in their week, and fun new adventures for their kids, each meetup is intentionally slow-paced and flexible. We emphasize child-led learning, and above all, free play. We want this to be a setting where moms can “do less; observe more; enjoy most.”

Curious about what to expect?
Our typical park meetups are on Mondays from 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM. There is always lots of time for the kids to have free play and explore while the mamas chat and pray together. We often do a short hike, craft, or other activity, and if it's hot, we spend some time with water play in a splash-pad, pool, or creek.
We’re very flexible and invite each family to do what works best for them! Arrive when you can, leave when you need to, eat when you want, and participate in the activities your child enjoys. If your little ones just want to run around and play, that’s great! The important thing is that we’ll be together and in nature.
